Air Filtration in Riverside
Service & Products Backed by Unbeatable Warranties
As a homeowner, it’s important to be thinking about those who suffer from allergies and asthma. Even if you have ample ventilation throughout your home or office space and keep both extremely clean, the air will still contain common allergens, pollutants, and contaminants. If you’re interested in improving your indoor air quality, consider installing an air filter. These systems can be installed directly into your central HVAC unit to prevent even the smallest of particles from remaining in your air. At Total Air Heating & Air Conditioning, we have experiencing working with a variety of types, makes, and models of air filters.

What Is a MERV Rating?
All air filters come with MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) ratings, which help measure their effectiveness. Developed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioner Engineers, these ratings vary on a scale of 1-16. The higher the value, the more efficient the filter will be at removing particles.
The Types of Air Filters Available
Depending on your needs, budget, and property size, we will be able to recommend which type of air filter will work best.
The four types of air filters include:
- Reusable: If you’re looking to be eco- and budget-conscious, a reusable air filter is a great choice. These can be removed and washed for continued use, which eliminates the need for complete replacements. The only downsides are that their MERV ratings range from one to four and they are susceptible to mold and mildew growth if you reinstall them before they’ve completely dried.
- Pleated media: With MERV ratings ranging from 5 to 13, these filters are great at trapping mold spores and pet dander. Their pleated nature adds to their efficiency, creates less airflow resistance, and helps quiet any noise from the fan.
- Flat-paneled fiberglass: If you’re on a tight budget, these filters are great options. Because they are disposable, they’re quite inexpensive. However, they come at the lowest end of the MERV rating scale, which means that although they can trap dust and debris, they don’t do much else to improve your indoor air quality.
- HEPA filters: Having the highest MERV rating, HEPA filters are highly recommended. They are able to protect against most airborne particles, including bacteria, because they have the capability to trap even the smallest microns. However, these need to be installed by a professional.
